Location Planning

Today our group had another meeting during a free period to discuss ideas for our location and ultimately to plan several then pick the best one. During our meeting we brainstormed a few ideas of locations for our film opening. We have to take in to consideration that the main bulk of what we have planned needs to be shot at a theatre location. So after some discussion and brainstorming we suggested the lighthouse theatre as a good shooting location. However filming here wouldn't be that easy as we would require specific permission and authority so we are looking to pursue this matter future. I then suggested that on our upcoming awards evening we use the activity hall because there will be a stage and seats set like a theatre atmosphere with parents and students lined up and coming in.

Creation of the script

Finally we have produced the script for Breaking The 4th Wall! we are now one step closer to end. Our script produced by Jordan and Co writer Jack have done a very good job on creating the script because it looks like a genuine unprofessional script. All the guidelines set by Mr Henton on script were followed closely to ensure that it looks legit. We were told that soundtracks, effects and dialogue must be in capitals and that the font it's written in should be "Courier"

Main Task Storyboard

Today me Jack and Joe produced the storyboard for our 2 minute horror film opening. Unlucky our group member Jordan couldn't participate due to an illness. So knowing we had a deadline the three of us took on the challenge. However we had Jack the co script writer to aid us in doing the storyboard.

We went to an empty classroom so that we could do the storyboard. To aid us i logged on to a computer and loaded our script which was then displayed on the board so that we could read it as we did the storyboard. By looking at the storyboard sheet we could see that we need to have most of the things from our script on there.
We included the audio, camera angles, sounds and then numerically ordered all the shots so that the storyboard is very easy to understand.

This is our first page with 6 shots.

This is our 2nd page with 6 more shots
This is our 3rd page with only 3 shots.

Now we have finished out storyboard we are ready to move to the next stage. I think that producing this helps us because our ideas become stronger and more detailed.

Additional group discussion

Today out group had thought it would be a good idea to get together in a free lesson to discuss more ideas for our horror opening. Having these extra group discussions has helped us because we are improving and developed our ideas even more.

In this meeting we further discussed 3 things. These were the location, soundtrack and casting.
During this discussions we decided to add different types of effects to our opening during the credits. we concluded to add a big camera flash and the camera flash noise during the titles. We then decided to add different types of shots cause tension to the audience add more horror effect.
All of our final audio, transition and effects will be written into our script.

Below is a picture of me our new addition to the group Jack discussion ideas and sharing thoughts.

Deadlines

Media Success and Blog Management - I have included these two factors because they strongly needed in order to maintain a level 4 blog. To keep a high standard blog and to be in the level 4 mark band all the posts should be analytical instead of descriptive. in other words this means that you need more detail and not just a description of what you did. Not only do you need well detailed posts but you also need to have good time management. This means that you're constantly updating your blog and keeping up to date. We were also told that we should be updating our blog every other day over 3 months which should total up to appropriately 45 posts.

We were also told to keep our blog neat and tidy and that they should authentically pleasing and something you can time and care with. we were told that we should be careful with the colour we chose and make sure that our blogs were readable. we were shown an example of a blog which was hard to read.

Pitch Feedback

To help us with our main task we gave our pitch to 3 people to get their views and comments to see what we can improve on and what we have done well already. I think that having others comment on our film idea will help us more.

Main Task Research

Today in a non contact lesson our group went to a free class room and created a brainstorm in order to initiate more ideas and tweak what we already had. During the brainstorm we were targeting 3 specific areas visual, audio and location. below are some picture of what we came up with.

This is an image of our group while we were brainstorming.

During the brainstorm we were looking into 3 key areas:

The first key area that we looked as was audio.

We believe that the audio will play a massive part in our horror because music can change everything. We need to have good audio but still keep in mind that we cant just get a good audio track. It's important that we don't do this because then we will have to fit our opening titles around the audio which will make everything a lot harder to do.

So we we brainstormed audio we couldn't go too deep into it. However we did disscuss that we wanted to use some specific Barrack Obama clip. The specific clip talks about "New world order" and this will help set the opening for what's coming on after.

Next we brainstormed the location. We want to ensure that we have the best possible location for our horror. we don't want to fit the script around the location because we cant do certain things in that location. From the pitch we planned to do from the pitch we know that we have to address the issue of a 'west end theatre' Then
our group member jack came up with the idea of using the local theatre in Kettering called The Lighthouse Theatre but because of all the authority we would need we had to find a more do able location and then we decided the the drama stage at school.

Lastly we brainstormed visual.

For the visual aspect we tried to mix it up with the effects during the opening titles. We first decided to have an old brick wall with the words “Breaking the 4th wall” coming out of it as the bricks cracked. So then i started to use fireworks to see how possible it was to do create this. After a long time of trial and error i decided that it would look to amateur so i decided not to purse this matter any future. Here is what i came up with.

Another idea that we came up with for visual was an illumanti shadows. We came up with the idea of cutting illumanti symbols out and then projecting them onto a wall with a red torch. I think this is good because it add more to the horror effect.

This is an image of the board that we brainstormed all our ideas.

Opening Film Pitch

In Today's lesson we presented our a pitch of the beginning of our horror film. Yesterday we planned this and took many things into consideration such as title, locations and audio. (We have added the picture of who's talking while they talk)
Below is a link to today's pitch:

Group changed

We have recently had a change to our group, JackWhite has now joined us and we are very pleased with this as he has good ideas and works hard. Our new addition has great potional and is always eager so i think he will fit in fine and help us to improve on our final product.

Se7en analysis

In today's lesson Mr Henton showed us the opening titles of a film called Se7en.We were asked to write down every title that comes up and the time it was displayed. We were aided in this by Mr Henton starting and stopping the video. We were then told to produce a analysis on the time line of Se7en and fill in the titles times, audio and visual. The audio was easy to do because i shut my eyes and played the opening and then wrote down what I heard. For the visual i turned off the audio and wrote what I saw.

Below is an analysis I did of the film opening Se7en.:

Planning the opening

Today our group started to discuss potential ideas for our film opening and how we would like it to happen. After many ideas and discuss we came to the conclusion of altering our previous idea by adding more to our original idea. the new idea is adding an additional extra element which we think will be much better. The new element we have added is to make out film opening a llluminati style. Our group agreed that we want show llluminati style in a west end stage on the opening night of highly rated production. As a group we have also decide that music plays a large part of a film opening and will massively impact. We don't plan to have any dialogue in our opening so our music needs to be good, so we want it to memorable yet an original piece of audio.

Saul Bass

Saul Bass (May 8, 1920 – April 25, 1996) He was a Jewish-American, graphic designer and filmmaker, best known for his design on animated motion picture title sequences
Saul Bass successfully direct and produced short animated films, commercials and television openings
He became famous for his work in film and classic logo design He is best known for his use of simple the symbolism of his shapes
During his 40-year career he worked for some of Hollywood's greatest filmmakers, including most notably Alfred Hitchcock, Otto Preminger, Stanley Kubrick and Martin Scorsese.
Bass designed the sixth AT&T Bell System logo, as well as AT&T's "globe" logo after the breakup of the Bell System.
He also designed Continental Airlines' 1968 "jet stream" logo which became one of the most recognized airline industry logos.

Amongst his most famous title sequences are the animated paper cut-out of a heroin addict's arm for Preminger's The Man with the Golden Arm, the text racing up and down that eventually becomes a high-angle shot of the United Nations building in Alfred Hitchcock's North by Northwest, and the disjointed text that races together and apart in Psycho (1960).

ID Card

In our other media lessons we have been improving our photographic skills with Mr Craddock. This was then leading up to taking a good photo which will then be used for a media ID card. The purpose of the ID card is for when we want book out media equipment from the LRC. In the process of making the media card i used a program called pages. Pages was good to use because it was easy to crop my picture, add and resize text. Overall I think this task was easy to do.

Opening Titles

In preparation for our main task today's lesson we began to look at the opening titles of films and how they can have a big effect as they create a mood at the start of a film. In the lesson Mr Henton showed us some videos clips of opening scenes from a website recommended by the exam board.("Art of the title") These scenes were the opening titles of these four films:

Aliens: I like the way that "ALIEN" is written across the top slowly as the film starts. I think this a was a good way to write it as when it starts the audience are trying to workout what it says which then adds some mystery to this alien film.

Dawn Of The Dead: The good thing about the opening titles of Dawn Of The Dead is the red text on a black background and blood dripping.

John Carpenter's: The Ward: The Ward uses a good soundtrack which adds to the horror whilst images are on in the background. The credits appeared in a ghostly form and the images. The images used is another good thing about the opening title.

Zombieland: The opening titles for zombie land are red representing blood they are slow moving as are the images behind.

All of these films use different techniques in their opening titles, all these techniques have different effects such as the font, colours, sound, positioning and order of cast will all have an effect.
